While I don't have access to the code, as I recall when externally observing the stack, 
there appeared to be a good amount of contention around IOLOCK8. I had also written
my own IP handler that leveraged the VCI interface. It handled enough of the IP protocol
to do a UDP ping/pong style test. If you're careful enough, you can get better latency. But
its not easy. And its still not as good at Linux.

I'm glad to hear that the VCI interface will be evolving. It's much needed.
