Correct. But I can mount/foreign a disk image with a non-VMS supported file system and burn it. Or copy a cd to an image with backup/physical (painfully slow though).
Jur van der Burg did (and still does) a great job when he implemented LD and LM.
Axp/vms since V7.2 (?) shipped with LD v8.7 built in. You need to run ld$startup.com to make it work. Jur's site digiater.nl has V9.7 and VSI ships V9.8 for IA64 only.
The LDcn: devices may be mounted /nowrite and ess$infoserver on axp and ia64 will service them over the network as DADn: devices to LAD clients. Neat for freeware and booting new hardware...
