It is my understanding that all HP-*vms-gnv-v02x+ kits will install the
PSX$ROOT mess.
I think John Reagan is referring to the VSI-I64VMS-GNV- kit.
While that kit may not run the PSX$ROOT, I do not think it will fix the
damage done by previous HP-*VMS-GNV-v02x+ kits.

I think that the VSI-I64VMS-GNV version was built right after Kerry
installed his if I am following the other offline e-mail threads correctly.

I already know about the PSX$UP_STARTUP issue. I reported it as a bug
when the GNV 2.1.x kits came out.
Read: https://sourceforge.net/p/gnv/wiki/InstallingGNVPackages/
I manually fix the PSX$ROOT command file after installing GNV, which
includes the output from Encompasserve.
https://sourceforge.net/p/gnv/wiki/MountPoints/
I have not worked out a command procedure to do the changes that I do
manually.
Until the *-GNV-* PCSI kits are changed to actually use PCSI for
managing the files installed, you can assume that any time you install
the *-GNV-* the exising contents in [vms$common.gnv] will be wiped out.
This will require reinstalling all other kits that install into the
[vms$common.gnv] directory tree, and restoring any user files that you
have added.
Again: Read: https://sourceforge.net/p/gnv/wiki/InstallingGNVPackages/
Currently many Open Source kits that use Configure generated makefiles
should be buildable using only the updated components with out
installing the -GNV- kits.
