Unfortunately, the WLAN repeater is just that, and can't be configured
as an access point. I've been thinking of buying another access point,
but a repeater is really all I need, and I already have it. The WLAN
repeater is probably the simplest electronic device I own. As such, it
is surprising that I can't get it to work. But I doubt that it is
completely broken, otherwise someone else would have noticed it. So
must be something on my network, but what?

Isn't there something called the AirPort?
I want something which works with iOS devices and with a tolino eBook
reader. Actually, all I need is for it to advertise itself, and the
client types in the password or whatever. A good access point should
work with any device.
In 15 years or so of a home network with various routers and other
consumer-level devices on the LAN (changed from time to time because I
needed a newer model for faster DSL connection, got something better for
free with some upgrade, needed new functionality, or whatever), I can't
believe that this has completely stumped me.
