How'd that work out for DEC, BTW?
Ayup, the product does matter. But so does the ease of use and the
configuration and management and maintenance interfaces and tools,
availability of staff and of tools and applications, the product price,
a path for revenues for the third-party vendors, integration with the
existing environments and staff, and — yes — marketing. Among other
details.
But back to my original comments here — clustering is a mess to manage
and maintain. Beyond the files, there's a small forest of system
parameters that generally need to be dealt with, too. Then there's
stuff like whether a swapfile even still matters — how many folks are
seeing swapping these days, after all? But I digress. Sure, great
products are great. Great products that are difficult to manage and
to use and to maintain... tend to be rather less great and rather less
successful.
Hey VSI, please remember to put the biggest product announcement you've
ever done — the upcoming V8.4-2 — all across the entire front page of
your web site. Don't bury it in a footnote somewhere.
Posting some release docs would be nice, too. When those are ready.
