Rather difficult actually. Just before WW2 Italy decided to conquer all of Libya. Mussolini wanted to show Hitler that Italy had a tough army. Which was properly armed, had a decent airforce too. And the Abyssinians were armed with spears. After a remarkably short time Mussolini was forced to call Adolph for support. They just couldn't beat the spears and sticks.
This essentially holds true today. Poor leadership sucks big time and good hardware alone cannot save your ass. Now for homework try and apply this paradigm on DEC and some other countries you mentioned.
