Welcome to the comp.os.vms newsgroup, and to a five year old newsgroup
thread! (No, this newsgroup isn't something at Google, you're just
using Google Groups as a news reader.)

What was posted looks pretty clear, but it's for a DB25F and not for
the DB9 that you mention.

Which two serial devices are you working with? The DECserver 900tm
discussed in the title or the DECserver 90TL mentioned earlier, or some
other combination? Why do I ask this? Because there's no single
pinout for either RJ45 nor for DB9 or for the MJ45 that was mentioned,
unfortunately — I'm not entirely sure what an MJ45 is; the more common
connector with DEC gear is the MMJ. Servers that have been commonly
used with OpenVMS — the usual topic of this newsgroup — uses two
different DB9 pinouts, for instance.

Get yourself a serial line breakout box or a breadboard or the
aforementioned multimeter, and prototype the connection — that'll avoid
having to reset pins in the DB9, or re-crimp the connector. You'll
probably want a pin-insertion DB9, unless you're into soldering, too.
Those connectors can be re-wired, if you're careful.

As for the usual DECconnect adapters, see the links to diagrams and

DECserver 900

— has part numbers for the MJ8 and MP8 ports. See Appendix B for
pinouts.
