No need for that.  DECnet MOP works fine for that console connection, 
as others have mentioned.

Get a breakout box, a breadboard, or minimally get a volt-ohm meter and 
some test probes.   Seriously.   The path you're on — wiring serial 
connections without the proper tools — leads to frustration and grief.  
Because not everything is as spec'd.

I'm going to assume you're using a PC-style DB9 connection, and not a 
traditional VAX DB9.   The tranditional VAX DB9 pinout differs.

Here's the adapter which has the wiring that's likely involved here:  
H8585-AA   http://h71000.www7.hp.com/wizard/padapters.html   Confirm 
that against a PC DB9 pinout, etc.

BN25G is a standard Ethernet cross-over cable.   So...  Wire up an 
adapter akin to H8585-AA, and things should work.   If not, then swap 
in an RJ45 straight-through patch cable.
