Linux has telnet.

Linux has X Windows.

Windows XP — long deprecated, and you really need to be off of that —
can also have telnet or ssh via PuTTY, but that's more software.

Getting Xming or another X Windows server running is possible on
Windows, but Linux already has X Windows built in.

And Windows XP is really crufty — more than a little software does not
work as far back as Windows XP, given its deprecated status.

If you don't have OS X, then any discussion about its capabilities in
this context is moot, as are discussions of the portability of simh.

Learn the operating system, using the decuserve server.

Once you have some familiarity with DCL and the rest, then somebody can
teach you how to use X on Linux, and ssh.

telnet decuserve.org

follow the registration information that will be displayed, and get
your own OpenVMS login and directory on the server.
