I don't think that is true. As far as I know there are no settings for
performance except if you want to slow the guest down. The default is to
run as fast as possible. Idle is not supported on all platforms btw and
would not affect the guest anyway, only the host.

This has been solved by running on an adequately fast emulation host. Emacs
is now perfectly usable. Big, big thanks to hb for spending all this time
on getting a nice build.
