Your mention of VAXELN Pascal reminded me that VAXELN was written
in Pascal. I wonder how many fewer security issues we would have
these days if more development was done using Wirth style languages
instead of C...

IMHO, I think it would be worth the OP's time to see if someone created
a standalone backup of the original development system as that could
save him a _lot_ of effort.

A very good point, but if the version of VMS in use was before V5.x
(which was when PAKs came in IIRC) that means he's going to have to
find that version again for the same reason.
