TPU is the default editor if you havn't redefined EDIT.

You can create an alternative symbol for "EDIT" in your
LOGIN.COM and that might redefine "EDIT" as "EDIT/EDT...".

I usualy have something like:

$ E :== "EDIT/EDT"

or:

$ E :== "EDIT/EDTT/COMMAND=sys$login:EDTINI.EDT"

"E" is less to type than "EDIT".

EDT and TPU has separate HELP sections and help texts. Hard to
comment when we do not know what you have read.

It might very well be that your EDTINI.EDT file is just fine,
but you do not start EDT. We need to know what ou actually
put into your LOGIN.COM file.

Better to actually show what you did then trying with
descriptions that might be based on misunderstadings.
