Now, there is no VMS 8.4 from VSI, only 8.4-1H1,
8.4-2 and 8.4-2L1

So if you have a "BRAND NEW OpenVMS 8.4 base License"
it must be from HPE and then you can only use a madia
that comes from HPE. VSI doesn't care in that case.

If you actualy has a "BRAND NEW OpenVMS base License" from
VSI, you need an VSI media, an HPE media vill not work.

----------

There was some talks today about future VMS licensing, such as if
a subscription model would be a good idea. It was also said that,
if you sign a new support contract with VSI (either IA64 or Alpha)
on minimum 3 years, the upgrade to x86 is free and included.

It was also said that VSI plans to release *one* Alpha version
based on the latest 8.4-2L1 that is only released as a base level
to make ot easier to make a future migration to VMS/x86.

Jan-Erik.
