ps: if it's a RAID widget, then a trip through MSA$UTIL might also be 
warranted, or whatever tool cofigures the particular HPE storage 
controller you're working with.

Most (all?) of the mid- and upper-grade HPE RAID controllers read the 
array configuration data off of the disks, but some other controllers 
can maintain the array configuration settings in the firmware.
