I guess my response to this is, what is meant by the word "performance"?
Larger disks may be considered performance, but, for me, it would be work per
unit of time. While there may be room for improvement, software isn't going to
cause a disk to turn and / or transfer quicker. With a significant cache, the
disk speeds aren't nearly as much of an issue any more.
