ok, so not strictly VMS news as such but I think it warrants a post because it signifies some trends VMS might do well to note
Opensource is only going to grow in predominance and .NET is going to probably get quite a leg up with Google embracing it
Everyone suddenly wants to talk and interact with everyone else and play nice
I mentioned .NET and VMS many posts ago as a way to perhaps lever VMS development in some way onto the visual studio development platform. .NET is not just about MS, it has indirect ties to mono which will probably get sucked back into .NET proper and Google will add their spin also now
I'm left wondering how much love there is still out there for Java as a deployment language versus .NET going forward, long term.
I know Oracle caused a lot of folk to look for ways to escape Java with their handling of the language so I'm wondering if Google are looking for a way to move beyond Java as well, long term, especially since MS open sourced .NET
Interesting elements at play indeed and some which I'm sure in time will push / pull / prod VMS
