Running 8.4 after 1-jan-2017 is not much different from running
8.2 today.

I think that the official standpoint from the site is to always
have support contracts on everything, and if so, it is the
VSI offerings (that seems to be on its way) that solves that.
Yes, I know 8.2 has fallen of the end-of-support cliff...

What if the sky is falling down? Let's see when that happens.
I do not expect that much to pop up in Alpha/VMS.

And if looking at hardware something like :

Alpha DS20e > Alpha DS25 > X86-64

is probably more close to the truth then:

Alpha DS20e > Itanium > X86-64

During the 10 years I have been involved the official message
has been that these systems has a 3-year lifetime left. So there
have never been any longer planning then that. My first job
10 yers ago was to upgrade to the current DS20e's.

But then, we are a small site, probably not even a dot on the
VSI world map. The visit to IKEA IT HQ in a few weeks will be
interesting, *they* are probably on the VSI radar...
