So, one could speculate that Phillip's problem could be some "junk" from
constantly upgrading VMS from some ancient version, rather than a fresh install
periodically. That was another recent topic, doing a fresh install periodically
to avoid just such "junk".
Because of this problem, Phillip still has a V7.3-2 system, which he won't give
up because of the DECwindows problem.
And now Phillip has a time problem, perhaps because of some old "junk".
In aviation there is a well accepted concept, that most accidents are caused by
a "chain" of errors, and if any one of the errors had been avoided, the accident
would not have happened. Something to be learned from that.
Operating Systems get new versions for several reasons, including the old
version being inadequate, buggy, and such. Continuing to use old versions then
causes one to remain inadequate and buggy, and such.
No way is anyone going to explore problems in old versions, when the problem
doesn't manifest itself in the newest version.
VSI? has better things to do ...
