There are lies, damn lies, and open systems.  :-)

The problem with posix was that it was too minimal.  It obviously didn't 
offer proper compatibility with many real-world unix applications, 
otherwise the porting issues wouldn't exist, as you point out.

Having said that, sometimes a proper VMS port is better than running 
something in compatibility mode.  Take ZIP and UNZIP, for example.  I 
like a proper HELP file, a CLD interface, etc.  The point is that the 
input and output files are compatible with other systems, which is the 
case here.
