It's a mess. Some tools log in documented binary formats with
tool-specific conversion routines, more than a little logs in free form
text, applications are all over the map, and some of the OpenVMS system
data feeds are not readily accessible without using a broadcast mailbox
or tailing the log file. Commands and syntax all differ, too.
There's no distribution logging mechanism or API, and there's no log
aggregator / scanner. There's nothing around uploading application
and system crashes and scanning those. There's no mechanism for push
notifications. There's no SNMPv3, either. There's no concept of
distributed coordination and control (beyond the existing cluster-level
break-in activities, and those don't work across clusters). The
OpenVMS state of the art is not at all what's going to be necessary to
play well together in 2021 or 2026. It's all home-made and/or
third-party or ignored.
