Bob, are you aware that GNU diff has multiple output formats and
that unified diff format is one of those formats ?
Try it; I find it's output to be a lot more readable than the
output from VMS diff.
Are you by any chance assuming that GNU diff has just the one
output format ? (The default format is not very readable IMHO,
but it is kept as the default for compatibility reasons).
