At that time, all the HP-published code for "OpenSSL on OpenVMS" was broken starting with the first release after the acquisition of Compaq. So I engaged in a bit of archeology to acquire all the OpenSSL source code published by Compaq.

I discovered a piece of code (term_sock.c) which appeared in the Compaq library which "did not include any author information" or "copyright info" which I republished here:

I believe Windows code needs to jump through a similar hoop because stdin on a Windows machine also doesn't employ select()
