I'm working on a project with 10's of millions of nodes potential.
We are testing with hundreds of nodes. Each node is a simple *nx os with a few hundred lines of c code embedded.
Each node talks wireless to a 'master' *nx node, that talks via cellular or internet to my VMS box just to store logs and configuration settings.
I'm only using VMS as I have some spare boxes and I'm familiar with it.
It looks like we will be funded for production and the team consensus so far is that VMS will not be the final repository. Mostly because of cost and questionable future.
I can't imagine VMS being used at the low level sensor node nor the mid level master controller. Each of these units is designed so that we don't change the battery's for perhaps 10 years, a single screw or LED that is questionable is deleted. At the low level sensor node the controller cost will be under USD $15, that's for hardware, os, and embedded app. I don't foresee VMS having a version for embedded process control.
