Also, there's nothing stopping anyone from creating a vmslib which gives a compatibility / porting layer.  I recall starting on something like that longago, and I can see myself putting something like that together.  Having a fd friendly select() would be one item which I bet would be popular, for example.

Of course, we can keep lamenting all the things that are lacking in the current DECompHP tools, but how does that help us in the short run?  We could also do what the open source community is known for, helping each other by building the tools ourselves.  Of course, I'm hopeful that it ends up inspiring VSI to make better tools ;-)
