True that Intel did resist. They tried to push Itanium. But they quickly
realized they could ignore that people wanted to stay on x86, so they
had to make sure they were protected on that front.
I still cannot see this as being anywhere similar to having AMD
introduce something incompatible with Intel in the x86 at this point.
