I did and have also started reading RFC6144, which discusses translation
in depth. Whatever you may think, that looks like the way things will
proceed, at least during the (extended) transition period.

It's more cost effective and easier to manage to have translation
handled by a single box at the perimeter, rather than having to
provide that for every node on your internal network, via bodges like 
dual stack. There are also security implications of having dual stack
running on an V4 only network...
