It depends on the context.
The term functional programming is almost as well known as the terms
procedural programming and object oriented programming today.
So it boils down to whether posters to c.o.v/I-V should
assume that readers are up to date on software development
terminology or not.
Given that there are a lot of non-developers and
some (semi-)retired people among readers then maybe not.
