If you're talking about booting VMS from a device that is the *active* target of an SRDF relationship, then you're going to run into some problems. R2 target devices are read-only when mounted to VMS (enforced by EMC - I don't know if there's a way around it). You would need to pause the replication in order to be able to perform a normal boot.
I have used SRDF for multi-site DR in exactly the way I think you're contemplating, and it works great. We also used to it to perform a data center migration many years ago. Pretty much the same concept.
