If few folks use the ability to create labels dynamically, why have 
everybody take the hit of the overhead?   Make the folks that use that 
take that hit.

But then there's (also) been more than a little work around iterator 
constructs in newer (compiled) languages, and of JIT'ing, and those 
approaches can and do work well.
