There is a certain demand or at least perceived demand for a language
like Java but with a less verbose syntax targeting the JVM and Java
eco system.
I think that is the main selling point.
From a feature perspective they have all the stuff that new
languages have today: simple data classes, advanced switch/case
construct, fp and lambda support etc..
Plus they have the coroutines functionality which is more
or less the same as C# async/await.
