Correct, which you could have guessed.

Samba sees the VMS filesystem as a set of flat files, because it was 
originally ported from unix systems.  It sees the latest version of each
file.

It would be possible to change the Samba source so that it saw previous
versions and mapped them to different files on the client machine.  That is,
the vms side would see three versions of one file and the client would see
three files with different names.

This would probably not be a bad feature to request in the updated version of
samba when it comes along.
