To elaborate what I think let us look at a traditional web setup:

PC
tablet-------web server-------app server (*)-------db server (*)
phone

UI-----------security---------business logic (*)---data (*)
              cache
              static content

I believe the * marked are where VMS should focus.

It is the important servers where customers are willing to
pay well (not willing to be robbed, but willing to pay).

And there is still a huge market for those.

(and of course having a web frontend is not required in
any way - that is just very common today)
