Well, for one thing, Oracle pissing off a bunch of large customers would
be a bad business move on their part.
Frankly, unless the revenue drops drastically, (which means those bunch
of customers are no longer using Rdb), I don't see Oracle dropping the
product.
Do remember that as far as I know, the people working on Rdb are still
in the NorthEast. Basically the DEC people who developed it, I believe.
Sort in the same area as VSI. Nuff said on that.
Now back to those large customers, you know, the type that like to hire
lawyers when someone pisses them off. You think Oracle wants that? Not
saying they don't also have lawyers. But in such cases the only winners
are the lawyers, so it's not in Oracle's best interest. If Oracle
doesn't want Rdb, there is a good chance that some deal happens for
someone else to take it over.
Not the same, but, some developers didn't like what Oracle did with
MySQL, and now we have MarieDB. I think I got that one correct.
