Phase 1: easy to use bundled (Alpha Emulator/VMS VSI license) ; it seems
to be at small cost.
Phase 2a: helping all the existing projects quoted by Stephen finding
new human resources, because the old quasi-retired VMS could retry for
free, and it is possible to help new genius (like Camiel) to try and taste
Phase 2b: explaining to the scientific world something of interest is
there (things done on youtube by Camiel or John are good examples on that)
Phase 2b': folks like here or in other resilient VMS users club using
these resources and their experience to "do the buzz" around VMS
Phase 3: Because something is emergent, time to build things in
universities.
Cost phase 1 (small) : ==> VSI 50% ; ==> users club 50%
ROI: small
Cost phase 2 (big) : ==> VSI 10% ; ==> VMS community 90%
ROI: big, and necessary to survive the 2 next years
Cost phase 3 (medium): ==> VSI 70 % ; ==> new VMS genius 30%
ROI: huge
Compared to the necessity, and comparing very small investment to huge
benefits, it is *THE* *first* marketing investment VSI should do.
(why they don't understand that for a very few investment they garanty
their success, and why the community doesn't help much, it's a cultural
problem about VMS ecosystem which could be examined elsewhere).
For now, it seems it's toot early to try with universities.
Perhaps some initiatives by users club offering MOOCs, 2 day free
seminars involving local companies which depend on VMS...
Example in France: with the help of a french company
(http://www.sysgroup.fr/node/6.html) a VMS agent for the supervision
project exists. We had a presentation of it last oracle technical forum
(https://www.vmsgenerations.fr/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/8_Zabbix_Agent_OpenVMS_v2_Paris_Jean-Francois_Pieronne_13dec17.pdf)
. The french geek who maintains Zabbix in France knows now VMS, and is
very interersed on it . This sort of contact could be used in a seminar
about "supervision and old-new systems" in universities.
[[[[Just do it]]] (no I'm neither a yippy nor a yuppy, I just think
sometimes it's time to do things)
