Depends on whether you call Linux for Unix.

Tru64 and the other big commercial Unix'es was a deadend.

Instead of doing the VMS->Unix in the 90's and the
Unix->Linux in the 00's, then DEC could have made
a ton of good money telling not to hurry and then
converting VMS->Linux in the 00's. And the customers
would also have saved money.

I believe that many customer outside edu did a
VMS->Windows and then later Windows->Linux double
conversion. Equally stupid.
