Ah, going off topic a bit, but the principal is I believe the same.
I've got a couple of Kubota tractors. Fine machines, have served me
well. But, oh, how I wish I had checked out the pricing of replacement
parts before I purchased the tractors. They are totally disgusting.
Similarly, with printers, I've had occasion to soundly cuss out some
vendors in the past. Now, before purchasing, I contact customer support
to see what it's like. Cost of toner and drums and such. Those that
want a credit card # before talking to one are not considered. As a
plug, I have found Brother to be rather helpful.
So, yeah, some up front testing can avoid many issues later on.
Sometimes referred to as TCO (total cost of ownership).
