I'm not sure. I'm inclined to think it a good thing, because when DEC
dumped the 36-systems they expected the installed base to move over to the
vaxen. But I/O performance on the vax was not sufficient, and a whole lot of
those users moved over to IBM instead. Losing customers is seldom a good
thing (although it's true there is a certain subset of customers that are
a loss in the end).
