If we talk internet (and I somewhat assume we are give the usage
of the term "main web"), then I would recommend:

browser---standard web app---VMS web app

over:

          |--standard web app
browser--|
          |--VMS web app

for security reasons.

(plus number of firewalls and a web proxy but that applies to both)
