Designing, implementing, upgrading and supporting IT automation is great and certainly the way to go. Having stated this, IT Automation is a huge, huge undertaking in itself. These environments are constantly evolving with new version upgrades, patches, tweaks, internal firewall zone rule changes and optimizations. IT never stands still.

My point is that the total number of IT staff involved in these eng / deployment / support of servers/storage/network activities is much, much larger than just what is typically referred to as Server SysAdmins ratios.
