So, who should get the excessive profits?  I'll be happy to accept them.

For the foreseeable future, there will be uses for gasoline powered autos.  The 
key will be to use each where appropriate.  There is no reasonable reason for 
inflated prices.  If electric is so good, then it should not need artificial 
help.  It has benefits, and will succeed.

Some people don't like to be told how to live.  They can do well on their own. 
The rest of the sheep can bow to their overlord.
