I remember back in the late 1980s there being a vax port of gdb, which
you had to use with code compiled with gcc.  If you compiled with gcc
you could debug with gdb, but if you compiled with vax c you had to use
DEBUG.  But DEBUG didn't work with gcc.  It was generally awful.

But somebody at some point did make the attempts to port.
