Basic sort of has a bad reputation.

Some people tend to think GWBasic, QBasic etc. - not
VMS Basic, VB.NET etc..

Some people associate Basic with the developers doing
the trivial but necessary job of writing screens in VB6
in late 90's early 00's.

But Basic is many things. And some dialects are
rather advanced. And the language can be used
for many purposes.
