If somebody gets around to looking at how to (re)do OpenVMS software 
distribution process, maybe have a look at using this?

It does do integrity checks.   It doesn't do authentication.  That can 
be added, either directly or implicitly checked as part of a software 
licensing support date.

Years ago, I'd suggested bittorrent as the foundation of a software 
distribution implementation.  Dat is very much akin to that, with some 
other added benefits.

It would be interesting to look at distributing all of the files of 
OpenVMS individually using this service, too.  Not as traditional 
packaged patches, nor as traditional distribution or installation kits.
