[Info-vax] Ada on VMS, was: Re: Free Pascal for VMS ?

The thing about Ada is that most of the code that was developed under Ada
was done that way because there was a government document that said it had
to be done under Ada.

In many cases these requirements are still in force which means machine
translation to some other language is not feasible.

The Ada compiler validation process is also not trivial, and interestingly
you can have a pretty broken compiler that still passes validation (something
Data General managed).

Ada was very much the PL/1 of the nineties, trying to be everything to everyone
and not really satisfying anyone much. And because it was so big, most
programmers knew only a subset, and no two programmers seemed to know the
same subset meaning they had trouble reading one another's code.
