Freezing the OpenVMS port for three or five years is unwise in the extreme.

The market doesn't care about the elegance of x86-64.   x86-64 is the 
server processor that's become good enough, it's the server design that 
sells in volume, and it's that volume is what keeps the prices down.

Whether or when some other architecture will supplant x86-64, we shall 
see.  But of the other architectures that are available, it's very 
clear that replacement won't be POWER.

For now, having and selling OpenVMS on x86-64 is the only reasobable 
path forward for VSI OpenVMS on new hardware.
