Ubuntu is not a shell - it is a distro. The shell and utilities
in Ubuntu mostly come from GNU project.

And Windows 10 has not changed shell at all. It is still
CMD and PS.

Windows has added an optional component called
Windows Subsystem for Linux, which is a Linux kernel
emulator (without any Linux kernel code).

It is the opposite of Wine which is a Windows
API emulator for *nix.

WSL allows for running Linux binaries as is
on Windows.

And Windows store has a bunch of packages
consisting of userland from some Linux distros.

I believe they now support:
* Ubuntu
* OpenSUSE
* SLES
* Kali Linux
* Debian GNU/Linux

WSL is not in any way tied to Ubuntu. Ubuntu was just
the first userland package they supported.

WSL is not targeting the ordinary Windows user. It is
targeting developers using Windows that need
tools only available on Linux or to build for
Linux or test on Linux.

Most people that have tried it think it works
pretty well.
