Just to be clear, "lead", the verb, pronounced LEED, has the past tense 
"led", pronounced "LED", just like the heavy metal lead.  So, if at all, 
they were misled.

There is a mining town called Lead.  They had a beauty contest.  Someone 
pointed out that the winner would be Miss Lead.  :-)
