I would expect it to be better.

For a traditional commercial product then you can only get (bug fix)
support from the vendor itself.

For an open source product if it is widely used then you can get it from
multiple sources. That should result in cheaper and better service.
Competition!

If it is not widely used, then it may be harder. But if it is sufficient
critical for you then you can always pay a consultant to do it on T&M
basis.
