Streaming has little to do with the OS. It's an application that could
have been done with Windows. OS-X uses BSD Userland which, again, is
applications and not OS. Last I heard OS-X was using some some obscure
kernel called XNU that they developed in house. From Wiki - "XNU is an
abbreviation of X is Not Unix." So, I think that eliminates BSD. The
routers I am familiar with (Netgear mostly) are running eiother Linux
or Busybox which is Linux based. Cisco which is the largest supplier
of commercial routers uses a Closed Source company owned kernel. So,
which ones do you know that are running BSD? Don't get me wrong, BSD
is more than capable of doing these jobs. 30 years ago I built major
portions of the first network in NEPA (University of Scranton) using
home-built boxes running BSD. But, the BSD guys seem to have little
interest in chasing after commercialization.
