This goes well beyond Qt.

The Xcode IDE for macOS is ~6GB compressed.

That's the ~same size as the (compressed) installer for the macOS
Mojave 10.14 release.

And Xcode has been getting steadily larger.

Tools are getting larger.

So too are the standard libraries.

So too are apps with graphical tools and graphical user interfaces.

I'd rather have a bigger OpenVMS installer than one as primitive as the
current one.

"Does this product have an authorization key registered and loaded?"

Um, you're a computer. Look it up. Then tell me if I need to deal with it.

DECwindows and DECwindows apps support 75 and 100 DPI/PPI resolutions,
and with images and assets sized to match.

Display resolutions of 300 PPI and higher are now common.

The sizes of the assets for higher-resolution displays will make
DECwindows and DECwindows apps larger, if DECwindows should get a
resolution-related upgrade.

...Some of various reasons installers and tools are getting larger.

Though OpenVMS has been stuck at 2 TiB for far too long, storage
devices are getting larger, too. Yeah, yeah, VAFS.
